The importance of a well structured email system (2 of 3)

Personal Email is OK!

Don't forget that this whole issues of distrust came about as a result of looking into email and how some businesses make it more complex than it has to be.

I think one of the major issues here is that bosses don't want employees emailing their friends all day or surfing the web continuously.

In answer to this a study has been conducted by Melbourne University that has shown that employees that use the Internet for personal reasons at work are 9% more productive than their censored counterparts.

Study author, Brent Croker said "Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf of the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a days' work, and as a result, increased productivity." Giving your workers personal email doesn't only give them firstname.lastname@yourdomain.com.au, however, it can lead to group calendars, more transparency in the workplace and better workplace morale.

Having a personal email at work can give workers a sense of solidity in the environment, acceptance and belonging.

It is also great for branding, as every time they talk to their mates, girlfriends, family and friends via your domain, your company email signature reminds these contacts that their loved one can also provide a service. This can lead to some word of mouth sales in the long run...
