Managed Backup Services in Perth

Something that is baffling to me is how many businesses out there do not have any maintenance or backup programs in place when it comes to their IT infrastructure. In my opinion this is the most valuable part of a business in today's day and age.

When you think about your business and the way you operate, what is the one consistent component of your day-to-day work life? It's your PC or laptop.

If you are a larger business (more than 5 users) then you would have a server to store your mail and files. This then becomes more important and the most important part of your business. This is your information; your client information, your project information, your templates, your email, your communications repository.

This is your intellectual property!

How much is this information worth to you???

How long can your business operate without access to your information? Sure, sometimes you keep files on your PC, but what about your email folders, your Customer Relationship Managemenet system or your corporate templates?

If you had to wait 3 days to get your system back online, how much money would you lose or miss out on making?

Evolve IT has developed a managed backup service that incorporates a daily onsite snapshot of your server as well as a daily offsite (online) backup of your data. This ensures a bare metal backup is available for you if some disaster happens to your server.

Bare Metal Backup: A backup that saves the operating system, settings and information and can be restored onto a blank hard drive on an operation server or computer.

This option is “set and forget”. This means that once we run the first one, it updates the backup every day without any client intervention - it's all fully monitored and managed by Evolve IT's managed services team.

This is Evolve IT’s preferred backup system, as it takes the human element out of the equation by automating the whole process. The reasons we like the system are:

1. Set and Forget – no client intervention required
2. The backup is backed up – data centres replicated in Melbourne and Sydney
3. Very secure data – data is encrypted to military grade standards
4. Bare Metal Backup – just need a PC and we can get you back online
5. Accessible online – if you need to restore files, you can access them quickly and easily from anywhere with an internet connection
6. Scalability – if you grow, the system can grow with you, so you don’t have to skimp on what you back up just to fit it on the drives
7. No up-front infrastructure costs – Evolve IT provides the hardware required (which is generally a USB drive) for the initial snapshot and after that the whole system is automated online

What this means is that you are saving money in a few areas...

Let’s have a look at the alternative, the good old tape drive style system: Based on one year.

1. Tape Drive (LTO 200-400GB) - $2500
2. Tapes (10 up front) - $700
3. 15 minutes for one person to take the tape out and replace with a new one and remember to take the tape home (based on $20 per hour and 260 days per year) $1303
4. New tapes every 6 months (recommended replacement time) $700

So in total you are paying $5,203 per year to manage your own backup - and this doesn't factor in the risk and inconvenience of hardware failure, a staff member forgetting to insert a tape, or losing a tape.

For the equivalent service, based on about 150G of data and 25 exchange mailboxes you are paying around $400 +GST per month with the Evolve IT Managed Backup Service. That is only $4,800 +GST per year with no infrastructure costs, no client intervention required and no need to replace or buy new gear throughout the course of the year. (All prices are subject to an individual evaluation of your business needs).

When you look at the opportunity costs associated with this system, it is much cheaper to go this way than the old tape drive system. Plus you get all the security and redundancy that you would ecpect from a tier one system.

In short - we ensure you can get on with your job and earn your money!
